I admit, I have never ever before voted in my life – not even for any of the American Idol contestants. But this time, I’m quite interested in the upcoming US presidential election. I really wanted Hillary to be the nominee, but that didn’t happen. I think Bill did good work as a president, but I wasn’t the least impressed with his stance on fidelity. Screw that- or blow that, whatever!!!

I must say so, I read Hillary’s “Living History” and my opinion about both the Clintons has changed. I understand that her book may be partially fiction, but I also know that press coverage can just as easily be tainted. One just has to have faith and decide to believe ‘something’ – of course while keeping an open eye and embracing new knowledge and information and being ready to revise one’s opinion. Be that as it may, it has convinced me that both Clintons (aside from sexual influences – damn, Bill!!!) have very good intentions. I think they are honest and do strive to better life in the U.S. for everyone there.

Generally, I cannot keep straight who’s Republican and who’s a Democrat, and I really don’t care. I care about integrity, honesty, determination, and progress. And how can we progress more than by either having a female or a black president???? Maybe by having a female black president??? Oprah, what are you doing between 2012 and 2016??? OK – my first choice would have been Hillary because she’s a woman. Just look what men have been doing to this world for centuries – there really isn’t any way to fuck it up any more than that. But she’s out – so my next pick would be Obama, the first black. Hell yeah- don’t preach equality to me – life it. And it’s about time. Besides, Oprah likes Obama – I have nothing but respect for Oprah. She is one smart, educated woman, and she would not ever recommend someone for anything, unless she’s done all the homework. So when Oprah says Obama is good, then I know he is.

But then, McCain brings in Palin. Until this morning, I would have thought that was some material used to produce candles. However, just the little bit I’ve seen so far —– Palin, you Go Girl. The only reason I might still vote for Obama is because he’s be the main man, while Palin would be just second-in-command. Obama is a fool, had he chosen a woman of that incredible caliber…….. Hail to the Chief!!!!

Talking about Obama – I only saw the beginning of his speech yesterday, then I fell asleep. I like the parallels to “I have a dream” and the fact that a black man is up for that office, finally- but I did not care for all the Bush-bashing. I would think all those ‘points’ could have been made based on the current state without those unwarranted personal attacks. Obama, you’re not running against Bush – and as far as I am concerned, Bush may not have made all the right decisions, but I’m convinced that ALL his decisions were based on his totally honest and sincere opinion about what is best for the country.

End of the day, it doesn’t matter – I’m just a bloody foreigner – ‘resident alien’ – and I am not allowed to vote. I’ve been thinking about becoming an American Citizen, and the only problem I’ve had is that those Krauts cannot tolerate competition. They would require me to give up Germanship (hey, it’s a word now) if I became an American. Why can I not be both? Deep down inside, I am, always have been, and always will be a German, and I have a hard time letting go of that, and that’s the only reason I have not pursued the American citizenship. But let’s get real. While my heart is and always will be German, but my life has been here for many years now, and while I would love to go home every year if I could, I don’t see myself ever living there again. However, paperwork, political labels, or whatever, cannot change what’s true on the inside, and since I expect to life here for the rest of my life, and would like to become a contributor in all aspects, I am seriously considering obtaining U.S. citizenship so I can vote for Hillary next time.

The final decision is still pending, but I think I may do just that!!
