The main topic last week, of course, was all the important stuff that I had in my purse and that was now who knows in whose hands. The most important thing is the Green Card. It costs $370 to replace that thing. Next would be my German Passport – and at that time, I still thought it would be pretty simple to replace that one.

We assume that the crocks did the same thing with my purse they did with Eric’s wallet – find no money and toss it out the window. So we decided to go out Saturday morning and search along the roads and highways – starting about here:
View Larger Map that they may have traveled some more.

So the three of us left the house at 8 AM on Saturday morning, to head out and search. And when we got to the Sequoia, which was parked in front of the garage where we always park it, we found that the passenger window had been smashed in and Eric’s GPS and radar detector were gone. How is that possible, that stuff like this happens TWICE within one week? Of course we were wondering if the 2 events might be related, but I don’t think so. My car and Phillip’s were sitting right next to the Sequoia, and they were just fine. But mine just had a Yoga mat in it, and apparently, these crocks don’t do Yoga. But Phillip’s car also had a radar detector, and they didn’t take it; and another neighbor had some stuff stolen out of his car the following night. I’m glad that Phil’s car was ok. He wanted to leave for Indiana the following Monday and couldn’t have done that with a busted window.

So we had to deal with police once again. I must say, the cops who responded to the mugging were excellent. They arrived fast, were friendly and professional – EXCELLENT. The sheriff who responded to the break in – not so much. He didn’t bother taking finger prints, even so there were some clearly visible and at a location where it was almost certain they would have been his, not ours. He spent about 5 minutes with us and was off again. As Eric and Phillip were cleaning up the car and glass, they found blood in the car and the driveway – not a whole lot, but enough. I called the sheriff’s department to let them know. We waited, and a while later, I called back to ask if the sheriff would be back but was told that he had been informed and would contact us. He never bothered. Not even to call and let us know he wasn’t going to bother with it. Sorry, but this is BS – there was clear and plain evidence, and he didn’t take it. I’m thinking some feedback to the sheriff’s department is in order.

So while Eric stayed home to wait for the sheriff, who never came back, Phil and I set out. He dropped me off about where Eric’s wallet was found, and I walked up the rest of that highway, along the two roads they may have taken, down the highway, in case they had just u-turned, and the remainder of the road we had searched on Monday – and found nothing.

The car repair will be almost $400. Add that to the $370 I just spent for the new Green Card. At least I managed to replace purse, wallet, and cell phone for just around $50. New GPS and radar detector – haven’t even looked around for those yet. Plus all the hours we spent with police, looking for the purse, hassle with dropping off and picking up Sequoia at the repair shop. And for all that, the crooks got maybe three 1-Dollar bills out of Eric’s wallet and maybe a dozen pennies out of mine.

The good news is that they caught the driver and he’s in custody. They are still looking for the passenger.

And now we are proud owners of a brand new set of surveillance cameras. And constantly lock the doors. And it sucks. I hate living like that.
